I have been watching a few replays of the 1965 show “I Dream of Jennie” as time allows. It is neat to go back and watch these older shows but sometimes they seem so outdated compared to the newer modern shows on T.V. But, often that silly innocence of the older sitcoms reminds us of days gone by.

Other of my favorites are Green Acres, Sanford and Son, Gomer Pyle, even some Hogan’s Hero’s is good every so often. But currently it’s I Dream of Jennie and that made me think about how so many would love to find a bottle laying around that can grant all of your wishes. Unfortunately and thankfully it doesn’t happen that way. Why? Because we are a selfish people and having everything we wanted could be disastrous at times.

I don’t believe in “Genies” or magic bottles but I do believe that is how some people picture God. They see Him as someone that you only call upon when you want something or are in trouble. Then, He will suddenly show up and answer or grant all of your desires. WRONG!!! That’s a wrong thinking of a Loving God. He is good to us and He does answer requests but we are never told we will get our every desire met. We often must wait upon the Lord. Scripture say’s: Lamentations 3:25–26 “The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.”

For the Eternal Home that awaits the Christian and for the daily blessings from God, we must WAIT. Quietly, Patiently, and with Hope, Wait.

WHO WE ARE

It's really pretty simple. Sunset Ministries is a 501c3 approved non-profit ministry. We are currently working within 6 facilities (with more possible) in the Roanoke Valley to minister to the needs of Seniors no matter what that may be. We hold Bible Studies with some, do Pastoral and wellness visits with others, and provide anything from communion to furniture relocation to others, and everything in between. We also work with home bound seniors to help make their lives a bit brighter and providing light repairs and visitations as needed. We are just trying to MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!!
We do NOT receive pay for nor do we charge for anything we do as a ministry. The use of vehicles, trailers, gas, or other supplied study materials is done free of charge. We function from the love offerings and support of Churches, businesses, and individuals who understand the need. God has called us to a specialized ministry. Why, because we are simply trying to MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!!
Our end goal is to have a facility that will not interfere with anyone's regular Church activities but would be open during the week to provide a place for Active Adult Seniors to gather in a safe environment with a Christian undertone to it. They would then return to their Churches revived to serve the Lord even more passionately. We are not a Church nor do we want anyone's members as our own. It would simply provide them with activities and opportunities to live a fuller life in their "Sunset" years. We are just trying to MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!!
We work with Churches and Seniors from all different backgrounds and function somewhat as a multi-denominational ministry. Yes, we have a past affiliation but truly believe that “At the end of the day, all that really matters is what we have done for Christ” We know what we believe but realize that all people need Christ and just because they may have differences does not negate the fact that we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!! That should be every Christians goal and if not well... are we Christians?

FROM IDEA TO REALITY: THE EVOLUTION OF SUNSET MINISTRIES INC.

Our Story-
Sunset Ministries was established on May 1st 2018 under the guidance and direction from the Lord. After a successful Ministry God laid Upon Our Hearts a new need and burden for our community.

We had begun to see a trend in many churches of focusing on Youth and Family, and even though the need and intention is good, we felt as if adult seniors in many churches are being overlooked, or at the very minimum, feeling like they are being left behind as the church grows. They simply want to be ministered to, loved upon, and given something to do that makes them feel good about their Christian service. That's where God led us. We decided at that point that we did not want just another Ministry "for" seniors but we wanted a Ministry "with" active adult seniors. Our intentions over the next month's will not be to take any adults of any age from their congregations. What it will be is to eventually provide a place where they can go during the daytime on weekdays and enjoy some other aspects of Senior Life. Of course, mixed into that will be the relationship and the study of the Lord. We plan on offering many different enjoyable things for them to participate in once the facility is in place. Another aspect of the new ministry will be dealing with Aging churches and the pastors who struggle so hard to keep them going. Often we have seen where churches have no one to fill the pulpit and our goal is to help them out during these times or provide them with a network of other individuals who can. Our goal is, when asked, to be there for them to the very best of our ability. We have a plan to put together a network of individuals who can possibly help these churches as they search for their next pastor.

Sunset Ministries is established as a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization. It is under the direction and leading of a board of directors who are more than competent to lead in the success of this new ministry. These folks are from various backgrounds and a various ages to make sure that the ministry is run correctly and performs the duties that was established to do.
We do not carry the typical Ministry label of being part of any particular denomination. We know what we believe and what the Lord has impressed Upon Our Hearts and simply want to share the love of God with anyone we are given the chance. That makes us unique in the fact that we can minister in many different settings and many different denominations without these pastors and Leadership worrying about doctrinal positions being preached that might be different from how they believe. Our goal is to help these churches find what they need to help correct both the Aging of the church and the issues that come along with it. We hope to work with churches of many different backgrounds with open and loving relationships to all.

God has impressed Upon Our Hearts to help each one of these groups as well as also do Pulpit Supply as it is needed. We do not charge for any Services of this ministry and it functions totally on the love offerings of those that feel led to do so. If that is something that God puts up on your heart all donations should be made out to Sunset Ministries.
Our plan is to work throughout the Roanoke Valley and surrounding counties to help forward the plans of the ministry. Lord willing the facility will be located somewhere in the Salem area but be convenient to anyone throughout the valley or those coming into it.
We are not asking for donations, the Lord will lead you in that if it is impressed upon your heart, but what we are asking for is a big bunch of Prayer. Prayer makes all the difference in the world and without the support of our board of directors, churches, Ministries, and you we would never be able to live out this dream. We are open to discuss everything with pastors and others before we ever open the doors of the building.
